About the Rink
The James C. Sheffield Speed Skating Oval is an outdoor Olympic-era rink in Lake Placid next to the Olympic Center on Main Street. Eric Heiden won five gold medals on this ice during the 1980 Winter Olympics.
Public Skating
- Public skating: Outdoor public skating offered when the oval is open for the winter season
- Public skating hours: Schedule varies by day and weather; typically closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays during the season
- Admission: $15 adult (20–64) / $12 junior, teen & senior / free ages 6 and under
- Skate rental: $10
- Reservations: Capacity-controlled; arrive about 30 minutes early
- Season: Winter only; closed during warmer months
